st john fisher Catholic comprehensive school

St. John Fisher Catholic Comprehensive School was established in 1964, by the merger of two schools. St. John Fisher is a unique school in Medway, it is the only Catholic secondary school within the Local Authority. It is also the only secondary school with two separate sites, allowing us to provide a small and nurturing school dedicated to Years 7 and 8, making the transition from primary to secondary much easier.
Our Ordnance Street site provides a specialist centre for Years 9 to 13 and hosts our Sixth Form Centre providing a range of dedicated facilities including; a cafè bar, new ICT suites, classrooms, an open access area for assemblies or external speakers and a dedicated Connexions/careers centre.

We believe that with our Sixth Form Centre, an extended curriculum, improved leadership and management and access to specialist teachers based at the upper school, Sixth form students will be supported and encouraged to achieve of their best in an ethos of high expectation and challenge. In addition to this, being based with students from years 9 to 11 they will have better opportunities to act as role-models for younger students and contribute to the culture and ethos of the school. They can also develop their leadership skills by taking on roles within the sixth form team such as Head Boy and Head Girl as well as officers and mentors.

In years 9 to 11 students have an extensive range of applied and academic options to ensure they have appropriate learning pathways that lead to success. The Ordnance Street site has been refurbished and improved to give greater access to learning through ICT, improved Science laboratories, Multi-media access for new BTEC courses and a refurbished Library with new PCs. The school has a new Student Services Centre where care, support and guidance are all together from pastoral, attendance and welfare, to external support, inclusion and connexions in a "one-stop" environment.

The school works closely with St Paul’s Academy in Greenwich, a successful Southwark Diocese Academy. This enables us to utilise and share expertise where appropriate assisting in continuous improvements and development across the school and its curriculum.
