The Catholic Church of England and Wales, the Bishop’s and Congregational Leaders are committed to safeguarding as an integral part of the ministry of the Church.
It affirms the One Church approach to safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk through the promotion of a sustained and sustainable culture of constant vigilance
The Church promotes a culture of Safeguarding in order to prevent anyone from suffering significant harm and to protect through robust policies, procedures and codes of conduct.
Rainham Parish, as part of The Catholic Church embraces its role in supporting children and vulnerable adults to achieve their full potential in an environment where they are protected from serious harm, maltreatment and exploitation.
All adults within the Church and our Parish of Rainham, have a responsibility to act and intervene when it appears that children or vulnerable adults need to be made safe from harm through neglect, abuse or exploitation.
Anyone who brings concerns or allegations to the notice of the Church will be responded to sensitively, respectfully and seriously. All concerns will be dealt with within the national procedures in a timely manner.

- By striving for and promoting a safe physical and spiritual environment in our Parish
- By being alert to the signs of abuse, neglect and exploitation
- By encouraging a shared responsibility for the health and safety of all within the Parish
- By being available and open to receive allegations and concerns and having the courage and knowledge to handle them properly
We do this:
- By having robust national and Diocesan policies in place that are understood and adhered to
- By having through safer recruitment processes and procedures, including DBS disclosure
- By conducting safeguarding training and awareness raising
- By ensuring there is an understanding of roles and responsibilities within the Parish
- By ensuring accountability
- By conducting risk assessments and codes of conduct where appropriate and required
- By understanding and upholding professional boundaries
- By maintaining good communication
- Through the appointment of local Safeguarding representatives and other key people responsible for administration and support within the Parish
